A deck of hand-drawn art playing cards inspired by world cultures and wildlife. Printed by Expert Playing Card Company (EPCC), the luxury cards are silver-gilded, with an embossed and silver foiled tuck box.
Taking over 6 months to illustrate, every card has a unique, full-bleed and detailed illustration, each suit being inspired by a different animal and historical culture from Edo period Japanese cats to medieval to renaissance English rabbits. All illustrations include hidden details and references on the pip numbers, the suits and card combinations, with the special feature of court cards creating a single panoramic, triptych image.
First funded on Kickstarter, this project won two awards for its innovation and creativity, and its ethos. Through the project, an endangered mountain gorilla was adopted, lobster populations in the UK supported, trees planted in Tanzania and support made for putting out the fires of the Amazon. The 100% paper cards are made from sustainable forest sources and special soy ink was used. Packaging makes use of recycled and recyclable materials as well as bubble wrapping made locally from sugar cane.
What’s more, a portion of all profit will be donated to ARK, a charity that helps rescue, care for, foster and rehouse abandoned and displaced animals across Japan.
